Multistate

  • A coalition of 13 state Attorneys General sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin calling for an end to the EPA’s “Compliance First” policy on enforcement. The Attorneys General warn that this policy creates barriers to holding polluters accountable and urge a renewed use of “key enforcement tools – including penalties, injunctive relief, and supplemental environmental projects” to more quickly stop pollution and protect communities.

  • A coalition of ten attorneys general filed a comment letter opposing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule to remove provisions from its Freedom of Information Act regulations that expedite requests for public records related to environmental justice-related needs and that waive fees for such requests.
  • A coalition of 21 attorneys general sent a letter to GoFundMe following reports that the organization created unauthorized donation web pages for over 1.4 million charities nationwide without their prior knowledge or consent. The coalition calls for immediate remedial measures including providing proof that GoFundMe has removed all unauthorized donation web pages within the next 14 days.

Multistate

  • A multistate coalition of 48 attorneys general obtained a settlement with Lannet Company, Inc., Bausch Health US, LLC, and Bausch Health Americas, Inc. totaling $17.85 million. The coalition alleged that the drug manufacturers entered into a price fixing scheme that inflated prices on generic drugs.
  • A multistate coalition of 21 attorneys general, four cities, and one county, put forward a comment letter opposing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s proposed rule that would weaken fuel economy standards and remove the CAFE credit trading program. The coalition argues that the new rule is illegal and would harm consumers and the EV industry.

Multistate

  • A bipartisan coalition of 23 state attorneys general submitted a comment letter opposing two proposed rules by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency that would preempt state laws requiring minimum interest payments on mortgage-escrow accounts by national banks. The letter asserts that the proposed rules are an improper attempt to circumvent congressional limits on bank preemption under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and would interfere with the states’ constitutional authority to protect consumers.

Alaska

  • Attorney General Cox announced a settlement with five car dealerships for charging customers unadvertised dealers fees in violation of Alaska consumer protection law. Under the settlement, the dealerships, owned by Lithia Motors, will make restitution to consumers, pay a civil penalty of $300,000, and regularly audit advertisements to ensure compliance with Alaska law.

  • A multistate coalition of 20 attorneys general succeeded in protecting four federal agencies from elimination by Executive Order. The United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island granted the coalition’s motion for summary judgement, permanently enjoining the dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH).

Multistate

  • A bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general launched a new AI Task Force in conjunction with OpenAI and Microsoft. The task force will focus on identifying emerging AI issues that could pose a risk to the public, creating safety guidelines for AI developers to follow, and tracking new developments in AI.
  • A multistate coalition of 17 attorneys general filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in support of Defendants-Appellants in VoteAmerica, et al. v. Scott Schwab, et al. The brief argues in favor of a Kansas law prohibiting entities from sending partially or fully completed advance ballot applications for registered voters to submit.

Multistate

  • A coalition of Democratic state attorneys general from 22 states and the District of Columbia, plus Chief Legal Officers of seven city and county governments, submitted a comment letter opposing the U.S. EPA‘s proposed roll back of its 2009 finding that greenhouse gas emissions endanger public health and welfare because they contribute to climate change. The AGs and Chief Legal Officers write that their constituents are experiencing substantial harm arising from climate change and other public health impacts of greenhouse gas emissions, including from motor vehicles.
