Crowell attorneys attended the Attorney General Alliance (AGA) Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado from June 12 to June 15. As usual, the conference included receptions and other networking events allowing the Crowell attorneys in attendance to engage with the over twenty attorneys general (AGs), from both political parties, as well as a host of their respective staff.

The conference included sessions focused on, among other topics, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) economy, the ethical use of AI, mental health, antitrust, Supreme Court litigation, state and federal cooperation, consumer protection and education, federal preemption, and emerging technologies. Conference speakers included: Jon Palmer, Microsoft General Counsel; Rajit Kapur, Instacart IP Counsel; Vanessa Broadhurst, Johnson & Johnson Executive Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs; the Honorable Mark Bennett, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; Stacey Friedman, JPMorgan Chase & Co. Executive Vice President and General Counsel; Maryana Zubok, Pfizer, Inc., Vice President & Chief Counsel; Harold Kim, U.S. Chamber Executive Vice President; Sue Boyett, local United Way Executive Director; and David Zapolsky, Amazon Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy & General Counsel.

Crowell attorneys attended the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) 2024 Policy Conference in Austin, Texas on May 22 and 23. Multistate

  • A coalition of 20 state attorneys general sent a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, asking the EPA to reverse its ban on the use of formaldehyde under the Toxic Substances Control Act. The Coalition argues that formaldehyde has long been used at safe levels and is needed to protect farmers, livestock, and food.
  • A coalition of 24 state attorneys general filed a petition for review in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit against the Biden administration’s regulation of emissions from heavy-duty vehicles under an Environmental Protection Agency rule imposing emissions standards. The coalition argues that the rule would increase company costs and harm supply chains.
  • A coalition of 19 state attorneys general sent a comment letter to the U.S. Department of Education, asking it to quickly implement its proposed regulations that would provide relief for student loan borrowers by waiving or reducing loan repayments for certain categories of borrowers. The coalition believes that quick relief will have more impact for these borrowers.
  • A coalition of 20 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration’s National Environmental Policy Act, which the coalition argues violates the Administrative Procedure Act and increases costs. Specifically, the coalition is concerned that infrastructure projects across the United States will be harmed by regulations on energy sources and non-specific and undefined demands for environmental justice by the administration.

Crowell attorneys attended the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) 2024 Consumer Protection Spring Conference in San Francisco, California on May 15. As usual, the conference included receptions and other networking events allowing the Crowell attorneys in attendance to engage with multiple attorneys general and a host of their respective staff members. The Consumer Protection Spring Conference included a panel session where esteemed panelists spoke on ways to improve the multistate investigation process.  Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, moderated the panel of two speakers: Kwame Raoul, Illinois Attorney General and Co-Chair, National Association of Attorneys General Consumer Protection Committee, and Edward Manibusan, Northern Mariana Islands Attorney General. Crowell attorneys attended the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) Policy Conference in Seattle, Washington on February 14 & 15.
